OBD code reader
Read fault codes from the engine.

Scan tool
Read/clear faults from all systems, bi-directional testing.

Multimeter
The most useful tool for diagnosing electrical issues diagnosing.

Oscilloscope
To observe voltage changes over time that are too fast for a multimeter.

Test light
Quickly verify power/ground with a single touch.

T-Pin
Stick it inside the electrical connector to take measurements without disrupting the circuit.

Smoke machine
Detect leaks in any system.

Vacuum Gauge
Test vacuum/fuel systems.

Socket set
I suggest getting a good, well-equipped one. It is better than replacing a cheap set every year.
