VGate Fuel Injector Tester | Owner’s Review

A gate fuel injector tester is a quick simple way to confirm your gasoline injectors are working correctly. You can use a tester for injectors installed in the car but also for ones out of the car, you just need to have a battery to connect to get a power supply for the tester tool.

VIDEO: Testing fuel injectors with Vgate VT200

How to use Fuel Pressure Tester with the VT200

Preparation:

  • Ensure Safety: Make sure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the engine is off. Ensure you’re working in a well-ventilated area away from flames or sparks.
  • Gather Tools: You need the Vgate VT200 injector tester, a fuel pressure tester, and protective gloves and eyewear.

Connect the Fuel Pressure Tester:

  • Locate the Fuel Rail: Find the Schrader valve on the fuel rail of the engine. This is where the fuel pressure tester will be connected.
  • Attach the Tester: Connect the fuel pressure tester to the Schrader valve. Ensure the connection is secure to prevent fuel leaks.
  • Check Initial Fuel Pressure: With the tester connected, turn the ignition key to the “on” position without starting the engine. The fuel pressure gauge should show the initial fuel pressure. Record this value.

Connect the VT200 Injector Tester:

  • Power the VT200: Connect the VT200 injector tester to the 12V battery of the vehicle. Ensure proper polarity—red to positive and black to negative.
  • Connect to Injector: Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel injector you want to test. Plug the VT200’s connector into the injector.
  • Select a Mode: Choose one of the four pulse modes on the VT200. The continuous mode is often used for testing the injector’s ability to deliver fuel consistently.

Perform the Test:

  • Activate the VT200: Start the VT200 in the selected mode. This will open and close the injector for a specified number of pulses.
  • Observe Fuel Pressure: While the VT200 is operating, watch the fuel pressure gauge. Note the changes in pressure as the injector pulses.

Interpret the Results:

  • Fuel Pressure Behavior:
    • Stable Pressure: If the fuel pressure remains stable while the injector is pulsing, the injector and fuel system are likely functioning correctly.
    • Pressure Drop: If the fuel pressure drops significantly, this may indicate a faulty injector or a fuel system issue like a weak fuel pump or a clogged fuel filter.
  • Compare to Specifications: Compare the observed fuel pressure readings to the manufacturer’s specifications for your vehicle. Any significant deviation could indicate a problem.

Conclude the Test:

  • Turn Off Tools: Turn off the VT200 and disconnect it from the injector.
  • Release Pressure: Carefully release the fuel pressure from the fuel pressure tester according to the tool’s instructions to avoid fuel spray
